Competent handling of data, statistics, and their representations is considered a key competence of the 21st century. This project focuses on exploring how school-based STEM education can lay the foundation for the development of statistical and data literacy by building basic competencies throughout the school years. In two systematic reviews, relevant findings from international research are synthesized, systematized, and interpreted regarding the future role of STEM subjects in building statistical and data literacy in K-12 education.
